BOSS may be best known for tailoring, but fragrance has been part of the wider HUGO BOSS business for more than four decades. The company entered the fragrance market in 1984, when it granted its first fragrance licence, marking the beginning of HUGO BOSS’s licensing business.
Since then, fragrance has developed into an established part of the BOSS brand. Today, BOSS and HUGO fragrances are produced under licence by Coty. The partnership began in 2016 and was extended in 2022 beyond 2035, covering BOSS and HUGO fragrances for both men and women.
Two of the most recognisable names in the current collection are BOSS Bottled and BOSS The Scent. BOSS Bottled Eau de Toilette launched in 1998, establishing a fruity, spicy and woody fragrance built around fresh fruit, warm spices and woods. The line has since expanded through different concentrations and interpretations, including the darker BOSS Bottled Absolu and the newer BOSS Bottled Beyond fragrances.
BOSS The Scent follows a different direction. Introduced as a men’s fragrance line in 2015, its original composition was built around ginger, maninka fruit and leather. The collection later expanded into women’s fragrance, with BOSS The Scent for Her developing its own identity through peach, osmanthus and white musk.
Together, the six fragrances below show how BOSS has developed these two key fragrance families, from the original BOSS Bottled Eau de Toilette to newer interpretations that use leather, florals, woods and richer concentrations in markedly different ways.
BOSS Bottled Beyond Eau de Toilette Intense

BOSS Bottled Beyond Eau de Toilette Intense is one of the newer interpretations of the Bottled Beyond concept. Despite sharing the Beyond name with the Eau de Parfum, it is not simply the same fragrance at a different concentration. BOSS builds the Eau de Toilette Intense around two central elements: orange blossom absolute and textured leather.
Orange blossom brings the brighter floral element, while leather provides a warmer counterpoint. It gives the fragrance a different construction from Bottled Beyond Eau de Parfum, which centres on ginger and leather.
The fragrance is presented in a refillable glass bottle that retains the recognisable Bottled Beyond shape and branding. It demonstrates how BOSS is developing Beyond through different note combinations rather than simply changing the concentration of the same formula.

BOSS Bottled Beyond Eau de Parfum

BOSS Bottled Beyond Eau de Parfum takes a different approach, centring its composition on ginger and leather. The ginger gives the fragrance its spicy element, while leather provides a warmer and deeper contrast.
This relatively focused pairing also separates Beyond from the fruit-and-wood structure associated with the original BOSS Bottled. The difference between the two Beyond fragrances therefore goes further than their concentrations: the Eau de Toilette Intense combines orange blossom and leather, while the Eau de Parfum is built around ginger and leather.
The Eau de Parfum comes in a refillable smoky-black lacquered glass bottle finished with Double B monogram detailing. Its darker presentation further distinguishes it from the transparent bottle associated with the original BOSS Bottled Eau de Toilette. Bottled Beyond also appeared in STORY’s winter fragrance edit, where its ginger and leather composition was selected among the season’s fragrance and gifting options.

BOSS Bottled Eau de Toilette is the reference point for the wider Bottled collection. First launched in 1998, the fragrance has remained part of the BOSS portfolio while numerous interpretations have developed around it.
Its structure is noticeably different from the darker Bottled variations. The fragrance opens with a fresh, fruity character, with apple particularly associated with the opening. The heart becomes warmer and spicier through geranium and clove, while sandalwood, cedar and vetiver form the woody base.
That progression from fruit into spice and woods established the identity of BOSS Bottled. Later fragrances may share the name and familiar bottle shape, but releases such as Beyond and Absolu take the collection in significantly different directions.

BOSS Bottled Absolu Parfum Intense

BOSS Bottled Absolu Parfum Intense sits at the richer end of the Bottled collection. Rather than returning to the fresh apple-led profile of the original Eau de Toilette, Absolu moves towards leather, woods and resinous notes.
BOSS describes a slightly roasted leather accord alongside patchouli essence and myrrh, followed by cedarwood, amber and fruity davana. Incense also contributes to the fragrance’s woody character. The result is a substantially different construction from the original BOSS Bottled, with greater emphasis on warm, dark materials.
Absolu is therefore more than a stronger version of BOSS Bottled Eau de Toilette. It develops the Bottled identity through a different combination of materials. Its presentation follows the same direction, with the familiar Bottled silhouette given a dark finish and gold detailing.

BOSS The Scent for Him Eau de Toilette

BOSS The Scent for Him Eau de Toilette belongs to a separate fragrance family from BOSS Bottled. Introduced in 2015, The Scent established its identity through the combination of ginger, maninka fruit and leather.
Spicy ginger provides the opening before the fragrance moves towards maninka fruit, with leather forming its warmer base. BOSS classifies the fragrance as ambery, woody and fruity. Maninka is particularly important to The Scent’s identity, helping distinguish it from the apple, spices and woods associated with BOSS Bottled.
The current fragrance is presented in a multi-faceted refillable flacon. Its architectural design further establishes The Scent as a distinct BOSS fragrance family rather than another interpretation of Bottled.

BOSS The Scent for Her Eau de Parfum

BOSS The Scent for Her Eau de Parfum takes the collection in a distinctly different direction. Rather than reproducing the ginger, maninka and leather structure of the men’s Eau de Toilette, the women’s fragrance is an ambery-floral composition centred on peach, osmanthus and white musk.
Peach provides the fruity element, paired with the floral character of osmanthus before white musk forms the base. The contrast between the men’s and women’s fragrances is clear: The Scent for Him moves from spicy ginger through maninka fruit into leather, while The Scent for Her combines fruit, flowers and musk.
The fragrance is housed in a crystalline refillable flacon, retaining the faceted design associated with The Scent while giving the women’s version its own identity.
