Best Dressed At Brit Awards 2024
Incredible performances from designers and artists intertwined, this year at the Brit Awards there was not a boring silhouette in sight and custom pieces truly ruled the red carpet. Drama, drama, drama- black is the colour of the season and brought a new sleek edge to this year’s performances.
We were initially met with 2 stars of the show- Maya Jama as host and her incredible Harris Reed dress. This fishtail silhouette style dress has slowly made a resurgence since the early 2000s and seeing an elevated version with a sheer corset detail hopefully alludes to more designers redefining 2000s designs with a new profound sophistication. This silhouette continued with Vick Hope in Versace and Kylie Minogue in a similar ruffled dress, a classic Kylie ensemble.

More of the Y2K motif was seen with Charli XCX in Marni and a delicate pastel pallet, a lovely change from the monochrome that dominated this year. This mix of materials and experimentation is on the rise and hopefully this is the year it blossoms- the coupling of the plastic corset with such a free-flowing train was the perfect mix of playful and high fashion, and mirrored Charli perfectly.

When mentioning fashion and music icons alike, it would be impossible to not mention Dua Lipa who has stunned us once again. Following her Joan of Arc esque dress for the Grammy’s, it is safe to say that her red carpet looks keep getting better and better. This year she rocked a bespoke black latex Versace dress with minimal jewellery, a wise choice as to take in the beauty of this dress. Ostensibly quite simple, yet this is one of the most flattering and timeless pieces to take to the red carpet in a while. The leather straps with again the fishtail silhouette all came together so beautifully and is the perfect embodiment of Dua Lipa’s journey as an artist and upcoming fashion star.

History was made with Raye who was deservingly nominated for 7 Brit awards and shone in a flawless Fendi dress, another timeless piece.

Although the red carpet saw plenty of monochrome, it feels completely fitting to mirror each artist and how they have stepped into a sleeker and more mature aesthetic while still adding hints of playfulness- as we have seen with Charli XCX and Dua Lipa. The resurgence of Y2K silhouettes may be on the rise but to redefine these forgotten pieces into a timeless classic is true craftmanship and this red carpet was truly an outstanding performance from designer to artist alike.
