Couture | Iris Van Herpen Couture Spring Summer 2020 Sensory Seas

“Sensory Seas holds a microscope over the indelible nuances of the anthropology of a marine organism, to the role of dendrites and synapses delivering infinite signals throughout our bodies. It enchants the attention of how two processes of torrential messaging exist in an interrupted state of influx” – Iris van Herpen.

Iris van Herpen is nothing short of fantastical. Her work using 3D techniques sees her fod sprong summer 2020 creatte vortexes, hypertubes, mesh layers in collaboration with Phillip Beesely. For this Spring Summer Couture collection called ‘Sensory Seas’ she draws inspiration from ebb and flow of both marine systems and also the continuous messaging of the nervous system of the body.

The work and scientific drawings of Spanish neuroanatomist Ramon Y Cajal illustrating the messaging system between the brain and the central nervous system inspire Herpen’s 3D techniques this season and the structures they form as does Hydrozoa, a class of sea living organism that float in the sea like aqueous fabric, layers of living lace.
