Editorial | Daydream By David Yeo Starring Alitia Eguakun
Once upon a time, there was a land called Story Magazine. Not long before Story’s birth was born a little girl called Alitia Eguakun. Outspoken and quite wise beyond her three years, the little girl could was a star. After stumbling upon a picture of Alitia, Story Magazine’s editor in chief was quite taken by her! Hers was an ability to perform for the camera and a uncanny knowing of what the photographer needed.
Two months later, this editorial was shot. In the very east of East London, on a dreary day, the fantastic David Yeo shot Alitia. With makeup by Tracy Walls, the look was ‘fantastical’ and this editorial was born. Now David who is routinely wonderful and shoots for magazines like British Vogue, iD, Dazed and Confused was a joy. The mix of his brilliance (and incredibly humble may I add!) and Alitia’s inherent talent was a delightful experience to take in. The order of the day was ‘whimsy meets fantastical’ and this was brought to life by infinitely lovely Tracy Walls’s makeup (think blue eyebrows, gold foil stars, yellow rosy cheeks and more) and Marian Kwei’s (that is Story’s editor in chief) styling. What is the fantastical without a cone hat or three? What is whimsical without a dose of stardust sprinkled on it? This was done by a wonder at all things graphic design, @oilslicc (yes go explore her page on Instagram). Alas we were done and here it is to share with you!
With this editorial we implore you to dream. With this spread we encourage you to be ‘childlike’ in hope, disposition and ambition.
