Contemporary Turkish artist Burcu Urgut makes UK debut (first exhibited work in 2001 but this is the first piece up for sale) with an intricate work depicting the life, major milestones and accomplishments of Elizabeth Garret Anderson. Anderson was the first woman in the UK to qualify as a Doctor and Surgeon. She was also the first female mayor amongst other firsts.
Urgut uses fine penwork to create her works of art. They usually depict historical figures underappreciated in their time.
The piece entitled Elizabeth Garret Anderson is available for sale at the Saul Hay gallery in Castlefield, Manchester.
