Kazna Asker Autumn Winter 2025
In a collection entitled Family, Kazna Asker looked at community and the selflessness of the community that raised her. The collection was presented in the form of a Yemeni souk abuzz with everything from Arabic tea and dates to businesses and charities.
The faux market exuded what Asker sought to share this season; the true essence of a community, the beauty of a people and their hospitality. Asker sought to convey these feelings in a presentation that felt wholesome and soulful.
Both the scene set and the clothes themselves told a story, one that looked at the ties of community and her own family who she states is the main inspiration for the collection; their unconditional love and how they raised her (teaching her to keep her heart gentle).
The storytelling did not stop with the presentation and garments. It extended to a special zine by Asker given out at the presentation. It featured everything from a 2 page doodle on the Kazna Asker process to interviews and varying culture features on art, theatre etc.
The clothing itself reflected the assimilation of culture that Asker and her family have experienced (a journey from a life South Yemen to settling in South Yorkshire); a mish-mash of the cultural and the Western. Sportswear codes are seen thrown with abayas and thobes. She brings together the traditional with the contemporary.
Asker shows that family and community has its advantages and can influence the way of a people including their dress.
