Mob Wife Aesthetic
Only one month into the new year and a new trend is already flourishing. With fur coats and boots as the staple, the mob wife trend is the perfect trend to invest in this chilly season.
The clean girl aesthetic is out, and we are finally seeing a reassurance of the heroin chic, rocker look with a twist and much more drama. Style icon Ginger Mckenna from the Casino film is my personal favourite fashion icon that embodies what it is to be a mob wife. Focusing on the fashion side of the film, she is often seen in eccentric fur, leather and wild hair with dark eyes and lips and especially chunky jewellery. Even in the Good Fellas film we can see hints of fur and glamour which has manifested into what we now know as the mob wife aesthetic. Maximalism is in and this trend not only encapsulates this but also includes everything trending at moment including animal prints, statement necklaces and layering but all with a modern twist.
The mob wife aesthetic of course stems from Italy and with the rise in sustainability being extremely popular with our generation (thankfully), seeing people dig through their parent’s wardrobe for the vintage fur pieces is a fundamental example of how to participate in the trend while still prioritising sustainability and derailing 1 use wears.
This trend is extremely accessible and perhaps my favourite trend so far due to this reason. The trend pushes for recycling and everything in the trend I am sure many already have. Also perfectly fitting with the winter seasons, a fur coat and a chunky boot is already a timeless staple for winter. If you tend to lean more towards subtly, throw in a hint of animal print with sunglasses, bag, or even tights to be bolder. This trend is the epitome of warmth and sustainability and will continue to flourish until the near warmer times.
Want to create this look? This is what you will need…
1. Leather (even better if it is red)
2. Eccentric jewellery- layer as much as you can and make sure you have at least 1 statement piece
3. A dramatic faux fur coat, again even better and more sustainable if it is vintage. Dig through relatives’ old clothes and you will 100% find something
4. A statement lipstick and dark makeup- a red lip is timeless and will be a beautiful pairing against the faux fur.
