Shavata Singh: The Couture Brow Queen
From beauty therapist at MichaelJohn Mayfair to being crowned the ‘Couture Brow Queen’, Shavata Singh has transformed the way we think about eyebrows – not as an afterthought, but as a defining feature of the face. With a client list spanning celebrities, editors and industry insiders, Singh’s precise, bespoke approach to brow shaping has earned cult status in British beauty. Here’s how the London-based brow connoisseur became the trusted hands behind some of the most recognisable faces in fashion and entertainment.
Singh arrived in London from India at the age of six and grew up in Hounslow, West London. At 16, she began a three-year hairdressing and beauty course, securing her first role as a beautician at Fenwick. Shortly after, she became the first Asian therapist to work at MichaelJohn, where she began quietly building a reputation for her eyebrow shaping. Clients arriving for facials would leave with something extra: complimentary brow threading.
As the only threader at the salon, Singh quickly recognised the untapped potential in the ancient hair-removal technique. What began as an ordinary workday soon became the moment that changed the trajectory of her career.

A then-British Vogue editor arrived for her waxing appointment when Singh gently pointed out that her eyebrows needed some attention. “I plucked up the courage to tell her that her eyebrows needed seeing to.” She promised a subtle face-lifting effect in less than 15 minutes – at the time when eyebrow threading was still widely overlooked.
Singh delivered. The editor was so impressed by the transformation that she later wrote about her more youthful appearance, marking Singh’s first major press moment. It wouldn’t be her last.
From that moment on, demand surged. Singh went from seeing four clients a day to 20, all seeking her precise, face-enhancing approach to brows. Now with over 30 years of experience, her celebrity client roster includes Adele, Kate Hudson, Victoria Beckham and Elle Macpherson – women looking for expertise they could trust to enhance both their appearance and confidence.
In 2003, luxury department store Harrods offered Singh a concession space within its beauty halls, leading to the launch of The Brow Studio. From there, her business grew rapidly.
Dubbed the ‘Brow Queen’ by publications including Vogue, Cosmopolitan and Harper’s Bazaar, Singh’s reputation rests on her distinctive method: a combination of threading, waxing and meticulous tweezing to create the perfect arch. Every brow begins with a consultation, allowing Singh to assess facial structure, bone alignment, age and lifestyle before shaping.

Using the ancient art of threading as her foundation, Singh crafts brows guided by the bone structure of the face. While threading remains her signature, she is also highly skilled in tinting, lamination and microblading, all of which inform her trademark look: light, feathered strokes that mimic the natural hair growth.
Singh has created a safe and trusted space where clients often arrive asking for a brow shape and leave with results as transformative as Botox – achieved in just 15 minutes. This approach has fostered a loyal clientele, built on long-standing relationships and trust.
With a growing business comes the challenge of maintaining standards. Singh remains hands-on, ensuring that every client leaves with brows that feel natural, polished and unmistakably theirs.

Shavata Singh has revolutionised the beauty industry with her natural, intuitive approach to eyebrow grooming – all while raising two children. In a trend-driven industry, she has built something far more enduring: confidence in one’s skin, crafted one bespoke brow at a time.
“Eyebrows aren’t there to be complimented,” Singh says. “It’s like when you go into an art gallery – you never say, ‘Wow what a beautiful frame’. The frame is there silently to make that painting look its best. My job is the same to help compliment the windows of the soul.”
