Statement | Edelweiss Harrods Piano

Edelweiss is known for crafting the most magnificent custom pianos to bespoke order. The British family owned company has coaborated with Harrods to create the world’s first Harrods piano.

About the piano Mark Norman, Design Director at Edelweiss Pianos says ‘Edelweiss create bespoke pianos and we have previously conducted collaborations with designers but this is the first time we have made a piano with a retail partner. We have been working with Harrods for 5 years via our showroom in the Knightsbridge branch and when they asked us to collaborate on a piano for the Shanghai private members tea room we were delighted.

We worked closely with Harrods interior designers who renovated the beautiful art deco building into the private shopping hub. The main consideration was the space, the shape and the finish for the final piano. All three needed to complement the interior while combining the Harrods emblem and unique style.

Working with mood boards and style sheets I redesigned our signature butterfly lid Sygnet piano, the smallest grand in the world, into a 1930’s inspired musical masterpiece. The gold effect legs are symbolic of the H emblem which is seen globally and exclusively added to the piano in a subtle and sophisticated manner. The half moon stool is a bespoke design to complement the piano and its beautiful shape.’
