The 12 Best Met Gala Looks Ever

Later today is the Met Gala 2025 and we have shared all you need to know about it here.

There are red carpets – and then there’s the Met Gala. A place where fashion goes feral, memes are born, and designers pull off the kind of stunts that make history books feel underdressed. This isn’t just a celebrity event. It’s a moodboard for the next decade. It’s camp. It’s chaos. It’s couture on steroids.

Over the years, some looks barely grazed the theme – and some became it. This list? Only the latter. The ones that lived in our heads rent-free. The ones that understood the assignment and then rewrote the syllabus.

We’re diving into a mix of the freshest Met Gala looks from the past years, alongside the iconic moments that have stood the test of time, spanning from last year’s runway to the unforgettable energy of the ‘90s – 12 looks that are permanently saved to my brain’s camera roll.

1. Tyla in Balmain (2024)

A golden goddess moment. Tyla brought the “Garden of Time” theme to life, becoming a living hourglass with sand dusting her body. Personally, I love how she made the theme her own, effortlessly blending fashion with meaning.

2. Anok Yai in Prabal Gurung (2023)

Golden radiance. Anok embodied a celestial vision, shimmering in gilded tones that reflected light like liquid gold. A true vision of opulence.

3. Billie Eilish in Simone Rocha (2023)

Gothic dollcore with a whisper of regency. Billie gave us a sheer corseted fantasy that felt both dramatic and fragile, darkly romantic and ethereal.

4. Anne Hathaway in Atelier Versace (2023)

She stitched Chanel tweed and Versace safety pins together like it was always meant to be. A tribute to Karl that actually worked. Statue energy.

5. Jared Leto in Gucci (2019)

Iconic or unhinged? Both. Jared walked in carrying a replica of his own head, serving Gucci surrealism under the theme “Camp: Notes on Fashion.” Say what you want, but no one forgot it.

6. Kim Kardashian in Mugler (2019)

Dripping wet fantasy. That latex illusion gown clung to her like second skin, cinched for the gods. She said “California girl just stepped out of the ocean” and we believed her.

7. Kendall Jenner in Givenchy (2021)

Crystal mesh dreams. A callback to Audrey Hepburn, but make it naked and 2020s. One of Kendall’s cleanest, sharpest looks to date.

8. Naomi Campbell in Alexander McQueen (2011)

Delicate armor. Naomi served silver chainmail and goddess energy in one of McQueen’s most poetic posthumous tributes. Soft power at its finest.

9. Caroline Murphy in Tom Ford for Gucci (2004)

Old-school glamour. Shiny, sleek, and so early 2000s it hurts. It wasn’t viral then, but it’s Tumblr-famous now.

10. Rihanna in Guo Pei (2015)

The cape heard ‘round the world. Rihanna didn’t just attend the Met Gala – she became the Met Gala. This imperial yellow Guo Pei gown from the “China: Through the Looking Glass” theme turned her into a living empress. No one else could’ve carried it. Meme queen.

11. Naomi Campbell in Versace (1995)

Metallic perfection. Naomi walked like she knew she was the moment. The Versace dress?
So minimal, it screamed.

12. Christy Turlington in Versace (1992)

The original it-girl serving Greek goddess chic. Christy brought a quiet kind of drama – the
kind that made you lean in. One of my absolute faves. Understated, untouchable.

Final Thoughts

The Met Gala is more than just a red carpet – it’s a blend of art, fashion, and history. Every year, we watch as new stars and unforgettable looks dominate the conversation. This year, we can’t wait to see what designers and celebrities bring to the table, and what iconic moments will unfold.

Choosing just 12 was impossible. But these are the ones that fueled my obsession with the Met. If I had to pick favorites, it’d be Tula, Anok, and Christy – three eras, three energies, same impact. This list isn’t definitive; it’s personal. But it’s iconic.

These are the looks that remind us: fashion isn’t just clothes – it’s cinema, commentary, and chaos all wrapped in one.
