The Margot Robbie Wuthering Heights press run delivered 12 gothic, couture-led looks across Los Angeles, Paris and London.
For all her talent, renowned beauty and stardom, Margot Robbie never quite achieved that ‘it girl’ status in the fashion world. She was a regular in the front rows of Paris – particularly at Chanel with whom she had a long-standing partnership – but she was never quite considered an icon of style. That was until the summer of 2023, when she embarked on the legendary press tour for Barbie. She quite literally had the industry in the palm of her hand, as everyone eagerly watched on as she stepped out in incredible outfits resembling the real-life doll.
Three years on, we are watching history repeat itself, as she is on a stellar run of extravagant looks as we await the release of Emerald Fennel’s “Wuthering Heights” on February 13th. Every stop along the way, she – thanks to the work of New-York born stylist Andrew Mukamal – is combining period-inspired silhouettes with today’s couture, resulting in the ultimate modern-day Catherine Earnshaw. Think Cavalli, McQueen and Schiaparelli – Robbie is embracing classic femininity with a gothic flair, and the results are quite simply perfection.
Los Angeles Press Event
She kicked off her string of appearances in immense style, with a vampire-esque black mini dress by Roberto Cavalli, paired with a black velvet choker that sat perfectly with the squared neckline. We cannot forget the painstakingly-high Louboutins – perhaps not quite appt for the Yorkshire Moors – but she made it work.
Jimmy Kimmel Live
On the set of popular talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live, Robbie opted for a whimsical Alexander McQueen dress by creative director Sean McGirr. With a high neckline, sheer fabric and floral detailing, she looked as though she stepped straight from a sinister romance novel – oh wait?
Wuthering Heights Global Junket Photocall
This striking three-piece by Dilara Findikoglu was the look that really solidified this tour as one for the ages. The details really pull this unconventional outfit together – from the corset to the ultra miniskirt, the Victorian-esque lace up sleeves to the red snakeskin, this one really was a showstopper.
World Premiere in Los Angeles
It’s quite the task to select a standout look amongst them all, but personally this one just manages to outshine the rest. This custom Schiaparelli Couture gown by Daniel Roseberry is the height of gothic glamour – the intricate bodice, the dramatic silhouette and the cleverly done ombré from black to red work in harmony to produce the most gorgeous of dresses – another masterclass from Roseberry. However, it wasn’t only the couture that caught the attention of onlookers, as eyes set firmly on Robbie’s neck, which was adorned with a 400yr old diamond necklace. Gifted to Elizabeth Taylor in 1972 by Richard Burton, the heart-shaped stone was originally owned by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahangir.

For the final stop before crossing the pond, Robbie gave us something more lowkey – and by lowkey we mean a 90s-esque slip dress by Mark Gong, paired with an oversized clutch bag and incredibly detailed bandage heels. We have to raise a hand to Andrew Mukamal for this one, given the fantastic use of layers – an absolute masterclass in styling.
European Premiere in Paris
In Paris it was another enchanting custom couture moment – this time it was the turn of Matthieu Blazy of Chanel. The dress is the definition of romantic, with a beautiful red velvet bodice which extended into an impressive train over a white skirt. A gothic element – a theme so prominent on this tour – was added with a bespoke Lorraine Schwartz choker.
European Premiere in Paris (again)
Robbie really did the city of style justice, as she stepped out in another jaw-dropping look. Opting for custom Thom Browne, this ultra vampire-esque corseted dress and suspended skirt was precisely what I had in mind before this press tour kicked off. She paired this with a ringlet curls (that felt very Victorian goth girl), yet another choker and staggering platform heels.

We were all waiting for Margiela to make an appearance, and in Paris it finally happened. It was an ornate and quirky look by Glenn Martens, complete with a pair of iconic Margiela boots.
Arriving in London
For a casual day of press in the tour’s final destination, we were offered a more casual look whilst still firmly sticking to the Wuthering Heights theme. It was back to Dilara Findikoglu with a floral corset, black denim jeans with belt detailing, and of course the Hysteria bag.
London Photocall
The only thing that had been missing from this immense run of outfits was a step back into the archives – London turned that around entirely. In the city in which he grew up, Robbie chose to wear vintage John Galliano from his SS92 collection. It was perhaps the most avant-garde look of the tour, with a floor length metallic coat dress styled with a pair of red-hot stockings, but my gosh did it impress.
UK Premiere in London
The tone for the London leg of the tour had already been set, and the bar was high – but Robbie delivered another showstopper at the final premiere of the film. Once again she turned to Dilara Findikoglu to create a sheer gown with intricate gold detailing, though what’s more is that this handcrafted dress featured real human hair. However, it was somehow outshone by the most meaningful of jewellery, as Robbie wore a replica Victorian mourning bracelet – a direct reference to that worn by Charlotte Brontë, which was comprised from the hair of her sisters.
Further Press in London
The final stop of this legendary run was a Q&A at the iconic London hotel Claridges – so who better to wear than an iconic British designer? It was another vintage design, this time from the archives of none other than Vivienne Westwood, and the black leather corset with matching bubble skirt rounded out the tour perfectly. Shoe-wise, she chose to end in the same way she started – with an excruciatingly high pair of Louboutins.
So there you have it – twelve jaw-dropping looks, reiterating to us that nobody does a press tour quite like Margot Robbie. I think I speak for everyone in fashion when I say that I already cannot wait for her next big movie release, but in the meantime I shall continue to dream about this simply iconic run of looks.
