Story Magazine in collaboration with My Wardrobe HQ presents the cover of our Talent Issue 2021.

On the cover of this issue is presenter and radio DJ Henrie Kwushue.

Shot by David Yeo in London, this cover & editorial celebrates talent.

A collaboration with the UK’s first fashion rental marketplace, My Wardrobe HQ, this Talent Issue is entitled ‘The Northern Star’.

The Northern Star also known as Polaris Star is beloved with travelers. We liken our cover star Kwushue to this, because like it, she is shining the way home…

Shining the way for talent, shining the way for a point of view, shining the way. At Story we tell the stories within fashion, beauty and culture. Kwushue is telling good stories. Her series ‘How is your area changing?’ saw the presenter pose that very question to residents, businesses etc in Peckham and Brixton. The two part project saw Kwushue tackle the issue of gentrification and how it is changing the landscape. She presented and produced (HTK is her production company) this.

She looks good on camera as these images and a 2020 GUAP Magazine cover testify.

Kwushue a South Londoner is of Nigerian Heritage. When she isn’t covering magazines, being hailed by the likes of Dazed, presenting or DJ’ing at the weekend for KISS FM etc, Kwushue has been lending her name to brands like Adidas who she recently collaborated with. The ‘Tennis Luxe’ campaign also featured Maya Jama. She also has a strong Social Media presence, her Instagram feed is worth the follow and she is Henrieviii on there. Yes that would be inspired by Henry VIII, rightfully so.

Previous radio credits include Reprezent Radio where she presented and produced a show called ‘Afternoons With Henrie’.
For her voice which hails social issues, for her presence which is distinctive; girl next door meets raw talent, for her influence which her social media trail documents and more we call her a star.

Like GUAP Magazine who hail her a talent to watch. We think she is talented, has screen presence, is going to socially document our times and has a point of view.

Henrie Kwushue is our Northern Star.

The Northern Star shines and shows travelers the way home. To invoke this, we wanted Kwushue to take on the part of a traveler; one that was otherworldly and luxurious. To establish this we needed garments that a luxury traveler would wear. Burberry outerwear. These were paired with luxury footwear. For our Northern Star we employed her signature hair color (Kwushue is known for primarily wearing silver hair) with gold foil brows. If you are going to emote a star you need to do so iridescently. A silver mullet and gold brows will do this nicely.

This was shot by the fantastic
David Yeo (clients include British Vogue, ES Magazine, Fault Magazine, Rollacoaster Magazine, iD Magazine & Dazed and Confused Magazine etc) in YoYo Studios, East London. Yeo conceived the Northern Star idea, an idea of shooting her with lighting inspired by The Northern Star. Yeo is a ‘lighting god’. See that film short by filmmaker TobiTade here. We needed what he does with light for this cover. It is visionary. If you are going to do a shoot inspired by the Northern Star you need someone who is wonderful with lighting. Yeo is.

Production, Creative Direction and Fashion Styling is by Story Magazine Editor-In-Chief Marian Kwei (formerly Kihogo).

Wardrobe was provided by the UK’s first designer fashion rental marketplace, My Wardrobe HQ. Our Editor-In-Chief chose to collaborate with them because they not only make aspirational high fashion accessible (rent designs from as little as £8 a day) they are championing sustainability one rental at a time. Founded by Sacha Newall, this fashion platform was just the wardrobe partner that Story Magazine was after for this Kwushue cover. Like Kwushue My Wardrobe HQ is relatable but aspirational. With this Northern Star and traveler inspired cover we wanted to champion sustainability and a reduction of fashion waste. What better way to be a luxury traveler than to support sustainability with every designer jacket that you drape yourself in?
