Oscars 2024 Best Dressed Red Carpet
Quiet luxury and minimalism seemed to be the theme of this years red carpet at the Oscars with structure and clean cuts on display, rather than trends we have seen this Autumn/Winter season. Though the gowns may have been a statement enough on their own, this year’s stylists turned towards makeup as an accessory rather than a necklace and embellishments shone on the looks rather than body.
What has been describes as ‘wearable art’, Schiaparelli showcased craftmanship with 2 incredibly structured gowns seen on Emily Blunt and Sandra Huller. The small details from the floating straps to the embellished pant line fused a perfect silhouette for Blunt alongside the pairing of jewellery by Tiffany & Co, matching her partner, John Krasinski’s broach by Jean Schlumberger. Roseberry provided a vintage luxury twist on Huller’s gown with something sharp and simple yet with hints at old glamour, a popular motif in Milan. The deep velvet against this impeccable shoulder details mimicked Huller’s own elegance and leant into something more fun and theatrical, a common subtlety with Schiaparelli.
Sequins were flaunted by Da’Vine Joy Randolph who rocked tulle sleeves against a beautiful pale blue gown and Barbie star America Ferrera opted for the classic Barbie pink, both demonstrating classic silhouettes. This classic silhouette was transformed into something more monochrome for stars Billie Eilish and Jennifer Lawrence, simple yet flawless. Eilish was giving Russian doll glamour and Lawrence felt playful in a polka dot dream, reassuring us that monochrome can still have fun elements.
An unforgettable look was seen from Margot Robbie who is not new to having showstopping gowns straight from runway. This year simplicity played in her favour and her polished Versace dress was completely divine. Moulded to her perfectly, the draping around the waist provided the subtle drama we needed, and the lack of jewellery rightfully drew all attention to this impeccable A/W24 design.
Celebrities including Billie Eilish, Mark Ruffalo and Riz Ahmed were all proudly seen with red pins (Artists4Ceasefire) to show their indefinite support to calling a ceasefire in Gaza, highlighting their stance at such a media populated event and brining more light to this humanitarian crisis.
Undoubtedly, the classic Hollywood glamour style is back, and this red carpet may have hinted towards the resurgence in timeless monochrome silhouettes with sharp constructions prevailing over maximalism. All we can say is that accessories should rarely be neglected and hopefully next award season we see some shines on the neck as well as the dress.
