Spring/Summer 2027 is moving towards bolder colour, mixed prints and more individual styling. Collections shown so far in New York and London have used colour, proportion and layering to update familiar pieces.
Minimalism has not disappeared, but the early SS27 collections are showing a wider range of approaches to dressing, from clean tailoring to contrasting colour and print. Rather than pointing to one dominant aesthetic, designers are using familiar wardrobe pieces in different ways.
Marc Jacobs is one example. The Spring 2027 collection combined strong colour with layered looks and exaggerated shapes, introducing different proportions alongside more decorative styling.
Colour, print and layering
Bold colour is one of the clearest directions emerging from Spring/Summer 2027. Rather than appearing only as an accent, colour is being used across complete looks and in contrasting combinations. Tanya Taylor used bright shades and prints, while in London, Mithridate designer Daniel Fletcher worked with combinations including ochre and petrol blue, hot pink and scarlet, and cornflower and green.

Print is being treated in a similar way. At Tanya Taylor, printed pieces were styled with contrasting colours and textures rather than being used as a single statement within an otherwise neutral outfit. Jackets, shirts, skirts and accessories were also combined in different proportions, making the styling of individual pieces part of the overall look.
Changing proportions are another feature of the season so far. Designers are combining oversized pieces with shorter or more fitted garments and altering familiar silhouettes through construction and styling. Marc Jacobs used layered dresses, longer lengths and contrasting volumes across the collection, rather than establishing one dominant silhouette.
Individual styling is also becoming more visible across the collections. Prints are being mixed, contrasting colours are appearing within the same look and references from different areas of fashion are being brought together.
Mithridate’s Spring 2027 collection mixed elements of menswear, womenswear, sportswear and eveningwear. Fletcher also referenced the New Romantic movement, bringing different influences together within the same collection.
Minimalism remains part of the season
Stronger colour and more varied styling do not mean minimal fashion is disappearing. Clean tailoring, neutral colours and simple silhouettes remain part of the SS27 collections alongside more decorative approaches.
Harris Reed’s Spring 2027 collection was predominantly white, with hand-painted fabrics, organza, silk brocade, patchworking and structural details providing texture and shape. The collection shows how a restrained colour palette can still be developed through fabric and construction.
New York Fashion Week has finished and London Fashion Week is underway, with Milan and Paris still to add to the picture. So far, bold colour, mixed prints, changing proportions and individual styling are among the main directions emerging for Spring/Summer 2027. Minimal tailoring and neutral palettes remain present, but alongside a wider range of colours, silhouettes and styling approaches.
