New television, film and music arrives this week. Story selects five releases to know from 21 to 27 September, including new streaming releases, returning television and new music.
TO STREAM — TUNER
A piano tuner becomes involved in the criminal underworld in Tuner, which arrives on Paramount+ on 21 September. Leo Woodall stars in the thriller, directed by Daniel Roher, whose documentary Navalny won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
Woodall plays Niki, a piano tuner whose highly sensitive hearing becomes useful for cracking safes. The film also stars Dustin Hoffman and Havana Rose Liu.
TO WATCH — BROTHERS
Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson reunite for Brothers, an eight-episode Apple TV comedy premiering on 23 September. The actors play fictionalised versions of themselves, using their real-life friendship as the basis of the series.
The story follows Harrelson and his family as they move onto McConaughey’s Texas ranch. Their friendship is complicated further when the possibility that they could actually be related is raised. The first two episodes arrive together before the series continues weekly.
TO REVISIT — TOY STORY 5
Toy Story 5 moves from cinemas to Disney+ on 23 September. Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and the other toys return as technology becomes a new competitor for Bonnie’s attention.
The fifth film introduces Lilypad, a tablet that changes how Bonnie spends her time and gives the story a toys-versus-technology premise. Andrew Stanton directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay.

TO WATCH — A DIFFERENT WORLD
A Different World returns with a new generation at Hillman College on Netflix on 24 September. Maleah Joi Moon plays Deborah Wayne, the daughter of Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne, as she begins her first year at the fictional historically Black college.
The new series connects directly with the original sitcom through its characters and setting. Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison return as Whitley and Dwayne, while members of the original cast also appear during the first season.

TO LISTEN — TINASHE, POPSTAR
Tinashe releases Popstar on 25 September. The album follows 2024’s Quantum Baby, which included “Nasty”, and continues her work across pop and R&B while introducing more experimental production.
The album moves between different sounds rather than relying on one approach, with tracks including “Melatonin”, “Too Easy” and “Crash Out”. More information about the album is available on Tinashe’s official website.
