Children of Blood and Bone is a fantasy novel authored by Tomi Adeyemi released in 2018 following Zélie Adebola and her journey to restore the magic of Orïsha. One night the ruthless King Saran (Ejiofor) orders his men to destroy all the magic of Orïsha, killing the Maji people and Zélie’s mother. Zélie takes it upon herself to restore the magic of her people and challenge the monarchy. She sets out on a dangerous quest against vengeful spirits and ravenous beasts all whilst figuring out her own powers and abilities in this heart-stopping drama. The novel celebrates West African mythology and culture with unforgettable characters that carry you through this incredible story.
Tomi Adeyemi is an American author and model best known for the “Legacy of Orïsha” trilogy which comprises of; Children of Blood and Bone (2018), Children of Virtue and Vengeance (2020), and Children of Anguish and Anarchy (2025). The trilogy has sold 3 million copies around the world and Children of Blood and Bone is the first adaptation of Adeyemi’s catalogue. Children of Blood and Bone was Adeyemi’s debut novel and spent over 120 weeks on the NYT bestseller list. Tomi Adeyemi has been praised for her celebration of West African culture throughout her work and bringing the notion of “black girl magic” to life in this gripping trilogy.
