Marc Jacobs Spring Does Paper Dolls And Their Imaginative World For Spring 2024
An Instagram post by Marc Jacobs: The Designer has made it to the headlines of fashion gossip and turned the heads of fashion-conscious population by
posting a short video where he can be seen blowing out birthday candles on the occasion of his label turning 40! It was a perfectly staged drama set up on a white table where candles collectively started fuming aggressively towards the roof and in the meantime, Marc was seen picking up THE TOTE BAG and tiptoeing. It is a remarkable example of Guerilla Marketing and a meticulously planned stage for the label’s upcoming SPRING 2024 COLLECTION.
As we dive in to the realms of Marc Jacobs’s Collection in Park Avenue Armory where guests gathered, and anticipation rose high whilst waiting for Jacobs’ latest runway collection show to start. Marc Jacobs led the guests into the world of skewed proportions, disorientations and humongous folding table and chairs, just like a fantasy stereotypical oldie barbie movie! To the viewers amaze the sculpture was made by the late artist Robert Therrien.
The models emerged from backstage and walked under the table grabbing the limelight of a disoriented room whilst having exaggerated proportions of their clothes. The clothes were typically stiff foam-like fabrics round the shoulders. The clothes can be seen sewn inside out with hemming which exposed their alterations rather than hiding them.
Each of the ensemble was a work to admire. Starting from the chunky sweaters, with 2D effects at the shoulders, and flat trompe l’oeil embellishments, creating the impression of brooch. The models were personified as living, breathing, and walking “PAPER DOLLS” of mid 1950’s-1960’s vintage era with cocktail dresses, glistering bodices and oversized paillettes. The shrunken jackets and pants rose to the sternum. It can be noted that the juxtaposition of bold pop colours on stiff enormous silhouettes with gigantic background was seamlessly put together as a new mystery ready to be reviewed and unravelled.
Accessories included chunky platform Mary Janes shoes with upturned and exaggerated toe, with a modern feel to the retro classic vibe. The makeup was the cherry on the top with dramatic bold eye reminiscent of the pop art 1960s eye.
This was finished off with large bob-puff voluminous blow-drys.
The show reiterated that the Marc Jacobs woman is ICONIC.
