Fam Irvoll Fall Winter 2026/2027

Fam Irvoll Fall Winter 2026/2027

London Fashion Week always brings on its own electricity and eccentricity, but on Saturday, Fam Irvoll introduced something extra into the crazy schedule that is fashion week.

The Norwegian designer is known for her maximalist, joyfully chaotic use of color, a bold contrast to the Scandinavian minimalism so often associated with her home region. That very refusal to tone things down is exactly what sets her apart. With work recognized by publications such as Vogue Italia, Elle, and Harper’s Bazaar, Fam has established her place in the industry. But beyond the press and accolades, what makes her collections resonate is their narrative core. They are always rooted in a specific theme, a point of view. This season, that point of view was something that could be universally understood: feeling 17.

I had the privilege of speaking with Fam backstage after the show. When I asked what inspired the collection, she smiled and said, “Inspiration is from my old drawings that I found in my mom’s drawer — all these drawings of flowers.” That childhood discovery became the beating heart of the runway.

The floral motifs and patterns weren’t delicate or restrained; they were bold, playful, and unapologetically expressive. One look that perfectly captured this spirit was the second to walk the runway. Inspired directly by young Fam, the dress featured lively, almost diary-like flower illustrations scattered across the fabric. It was a red, sparkly silhouette covered in gems, layered with hand-drawn blue, pink, and white florals that felt spontaneous and deeply personal. Styled with oversized white and green flower earrings and blue loafers, the look balanced nostalgia with spunk. Later in our interview, Fam revealed it was her favorite once she saw it fully styled on the model — and it was easy to understand why. It embodied the collection’s emotional core.

The show unfolded to show a range of funky mini dresses, flirty skirts, cozy knit sweaters ideal for F/W 2026, and blossoming matching sets that felt both wearable and theatrical. One standout was a floral-accented jacket that quite literally lit up the runway, a statement piece that captured attention without losing the collection’s youthful sincerity. There was also a particularly charming pairing of a soft knit with a petal-textured skirt, which felt like the grown-up version of dressing up in your bedroom mirror before meeting your friends. Every look leaned into color, saturated greens, punchy pinks, electric blues, purples, and fiery reds, yet the cohesion was undeniable. Each piece radiated the same emotional frequency: the spirit and fearlessness of being 17.

The atmosphere only amplified this message. The soundtrack was energetic and nostalgic, immediately transporting the audience back to teenage bedrooms and house parties. Fam told me that during her design process she listens to music and asks herself, “What would make people laugh at the show? What would make people think, oh I remember this song, or what dance or whatever?” That intention was fully accomplished, especially for me as I nodded my head to every song. The audience wasn’t just watching; they were smiling, moving, visibly connecting to the memories the music triggered.

One of the most touching details came from a story Fam shared about visiting her grandmother after developing the prints. She asked her, “How old do you feel?” Her grandmother replied, “17.” Fam’s response: “I’m like, I’m gonna feel like 17, so let’s start.” That sentiment launched everything, from the washes of bright eye shadow to the oversized floral earrings and the intricate stitching details in every look. The collection didn’t just reference youth; it wholeheartedly embodied it. It transported you to that moment of blasting music while getting dressed up, trying on three outfits before leaving the house, laughing with your friends with nowhere important to be but everywhere exciting to go.

As Fam is off to Paris next, London is already missing the color, energy, and unapologetic joy she brought to the runway. In a fashion landscape that can sometimes take itself too seriously, her reminder to embrace playful memories and feeling (no matter your true age) felt refreshing and honestly necessary.
