Critics Choice Awards 2024
On Sunday 14th January 2024, film and television stars and critics alike flocked to Santa Monica, California to attend the 29th Critics Choice Awards. Widely regarded as one of the most influential ceremonies of the cinematic year — as category winners tend to indicate who will take home the much-coveted Academy Awards later in March — the evening boasted a star studded international turnout, with Chelsea Handler as its main host, who was joined by a number of celebrity presenters, including David Oyelowo, Angela Bassett and Ashley Madekwe, amongst others.

Harrison Ford received the Career Achievement Award, most likely for his career-defining roles as Indiana Jones and Han Solo in the blockbuster film franchises of Indiana Jones and Star Wars, respectively. The award was presented to him by James Mangold.

After the cultural phenomenon that was the ‘Barbenheimer’ craze of summer 2023, it was no surprise that both Barbie and Oppenheimer took home multiple wins in the film segment of the awards, leading both the nominations and award reception; the latter swept the night with a total of 8 wins, with the former receiving 6.
Greta Gerwig & Margot Robbie
In terms of television, Succession stars Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook both received awards for Best Actor and Best Actress in a Drama Series, while rising star Ayo Edebiri won the award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series with her breakthrough role as Syd in the FX on Hulu comedy series The Bear.
