Style Icon | Dennis Rodman
The most stylish sports personality to have ever lived has to be Dennis Rodman. The hall of famer and 5 X NBA champion is a style icon.
Attention grabbing hair (all the colours in the rainbow and some, text and designs sprayed on or shaved in), gender bending clothes and structure, multiple piercings and a way with jewellery, the ability to carry off the ‘flamboyant’, an ease in wearing whatever he chooses, HipHop & street, Rave references, fetish wear etc.
In the 90s he was known as the bad boy of sport. Often misunderstood for his colourful style that saw Rodman choose to champion a personal style that was one part 70s in cut, texture and shape, many parts ‘rave’, one part HipHop, one part ‘fetish’, one part ‘emo’ and all parts ‘himself’.
Now he is seen as an innovator of different schools of style, schools and trends he inspired with how he dressed and wore his hair. From spaghetti strap tanktop camisoles, flare hipsters, chain belts, grungy plaid pajama pants, a penchant for hats, his never ending arsenal of eyewear, a custom made wedding gown (worn at the 1996 book signing of his book ‘Bad As I Wanna Be’), interesting footwear, textures, sheer shirts, midriff baring garments etc Dennis Rodman wanted to wear what he wanted to wear, whatever that was, whenever he wanted.
For his courage to do that at a time when many stuck to the ‘status quota’ and the influence it has had, we deem him one of the greatest to ever do it. Follow him on Instagram @dennisrodman
