‘Very Demure, Very Mindful’ Trend Meaning
If you’ve been scrolling through TikTok lately, you might have noticed a new trend that’s as hilarious as unexpected. Right now everyone’s obsessed with being “very demure” and “very mindful”.
Before you picture over-the-top displays of prim and proper behaviour, let’s be clear – this trend isn’t about actual modesty. It is not what the demure trend TikTok is all about or the demure trend meaning.
It’s TikTok’s latest joke, where creators ironically flaunt modest behaviour, poking fun at old-school ideas of how we should act.
What is this joke and why is everyone so “demure”? Here is the demure trend explained.
In a video, now viewed over 34 million times, TikToker Joolie Lebron (@joolieannie) talks about how to act in a workplace setting.
“You see how I do my makeup for work? Very demure. Very mindful”. “I’m very mindful when I’m at work”, Lebron says in the video as seen here. This was the demure TikTok original video to go viral.
These few words have taken over TikTok and Lebron has fully embraced it by continuing to post videos acting in a demure manner. You’ll now find her applying deodorant in a demure way and teaching people how to be “demurestsey”.
Naturally, other TickTokers haved jumped on the demure train. Creator Alice Choi (@hipfoodiemom1) shows us how to make the viral cucumber salad, making sure we are safe in the kitchen as we do so. “Do you see how I prep to secure my plastic deli container? Very demure. Very mindful”, she says as she prepares to slice her cucumbers. Watch the video here.
The cast of Emily In Paris also joined in on the fun as they dazzled on the red carpet for their shows season 4 premiere. The cast members laugh as they share what they are wearing whilst describing their looks as “very demure and very mindful” seen here.
Why has this TikTok trend taken off?
Lebron’s “demure” trend, is the perfect blend of satire and silliness that appeals to all.
This trend is a playful and lighthearted joke which contrasts the usual focus on carefully curated and intentional content online. TikTokers have taken the concept and run with it in the most creative ways. Any mundane task can now be made “demure” and “mindful” with the right mix of exaggerated properness and irony. It’s this flexibility that keeps the joke fresh, reminding us that sometimes the silliest trends are the most fun.
Just when we thought “brat summer” was taking over our feeds, this trend swooped in. The transition from one trend to the next highlights how people on the platform are able to switch things up instantly and keep audiences entertained and hooked.
As Tiktok continues to embrace this silly, over-the-top politeness, one thing’s for sure: it’s all very demure and very mindful.
